After a little deliberation I finally decided on a design and layout for my business cards for 2010. Found a great printers in Aubergine print who have provided me with some really nicely weighted cards, double side laminated and really lovley finish. Anyway here they are for you guys to check out, excuse the poor photography :D

Let me know what you think, thanks

Some photos I’ve been messing about with

February 6, 2010

As part of my project, I’ve ended up messing about with shadows and so on. So I’ve been messing around with stencils for a week or so now. The project brief at the start was to explore the word “ephemeral”, which is something ‘temporary’ or kinda fragile basically. But this was just a starting point and everyones projects have gone far away from that. From my development, I’ve been doing shadows really and a lot of simple paper art stuff, which makes cool shadows. These photos are from stencils I made generally, I even started messing about with some light graffiti – a first for me :) It’s all about experimentation really, quantity not quality – although quality does help :p I’m quite proud of some of them, hopefully get some opinions from you lot.

Leo is my name, designing and graphics is my past time/hobby. Now what sets me apart from the rest of the guys here is that my career and future at the moment is on a totally different path than the others. I’m a 18 year old college student enduring a National Diploma in engineering. At a young age I started creating some tags/signatures on a forum, helped me develop some skills, so it’s always been something I’ve seen as a fun activity. It’s always been on and off for me so I’m probably going to be a rarity on here.

The most satisfaction I’ve got from designing was when I entered a competition on PESFAN.com last year. The objective was to design the box art cover for the new Pro Evolution Soccer 2010 multi-platform console game. To my surprise I won and it was the first time and only time yet I’ve got something from it apart from some words on a computer screen.

Below is my winning entry, until next time.

Scream Pub Flyers

January 21, 2010

Evening all,

Just had the following flyers finalized and sent off. Enjoyed making these quite a lot, nice to do some relatively free range projects now and again. The illustrations are obviously deliberately a bit ropey/cartoony in case you were wondering :D , I had produced some clean versions of the guitar but a more free hand feel was wanted by the client. So anyway, there’s two variations with white/yellow backgrounds. Let me know what you guys think.

My first bit of mag print work is here!

January 19, 2010

Good Evening all,

I recently gained the opportunity, just after leaving University last summer, to work on an advertising project for “Ansmann Racing” who specialize in high end model racing cars. The project consisted of producing a series of single and double page adverts to promote a total of 8 different model racing cars that Ansmann produce. I spent three brilliant weeks on the project and this is the first print work I have to show so far.

The advertising will be used for the following year or so with each car advert being featured in magazines “Racer” and “Race Car” every month. I will hopefully share them with you as each issue is released. I would upload the other psd files I have but this work really has more of a meaning to me in actual print so I will wait and post up pictures of the adverts in the magazines.

Hope you like it. Laterz

Deviant Art’s Finest…

January 14, 2010

Good Afternoon all,

I thought it would be a cool idea to share with you lot my current inspirations. Now I use deviant art a lot, they have some very high profile competitions and have come a long way since I join (nothing to do with me though.) Anyway as a mini tribute style thing to the people at DA I thought I’d put together a little list of my favourite Deviant Artists. A lot of these artists obviously are not specific to deviant art, most have their own websites etc but I thought I would keep it to DA as in the future I will be looking to bring you less well known DA portfolios. Anyway Hopefully by reading this you may find some new art you haven’t seen before or maybe re-light your fire for an artists work that you haven’t seen in a long time. You may even find looking through the artists work gives you new found inspiration to produce your on work. Let’s get on with it.

Caramelaw

First up is vector artist caramelaw from Singapore. Lately I’ve been completely mesmerized by her work and the level of detail she puts into every element of her designs. The clean vector style mixed with a beautiful colour pallette really give her work a unique edge over other vector artists. The work she has done for Depth Core is brilliant and adds a very playful nature to the collections found at Depth Core.

Zach Bush

Secondly comes one of my favourite modern graphic artists Zach Bush. I first came across his work printed in an advanced photoshop magazine and have been hooked ever since. His work is intricately detailed and his digital painting skills are improving ten fold. Of late his work has become much more illustrative portraying characters such as The Mad Hatter and as part of a Deviant Art Competition, God himself, which was a mammoth task but executed with stunning skill. He also has some futuristic and fantasy landscape paintings that are truly astounding, plus they make for good desktop wallpapers :D . Anyway this guy is only going to get better. I literally find myself itching to see his latest work, and I’m never dissapointed.

Nik Ainley

Nik is a very well known graphic artist who seemed to be everywhere last year, doing adverts and designs for companies like Nike, Adidas, MTV and all sorts. His work is brilliantly precise and he has certainly sparked a trend with his typography work. His unique techniques have awoken many a new style of work and with each piece he seems to get better and better. He has some brilliant tutorials in both magazines and on the internet that are really helpful and inspiring so be sure to check them out.

ArchanN

Well this guy is one of a kind. He is very well known in the design world for his unique composition style and excellent colour schemes. His work really jumps out at you from the page and his private work flows effortlessly into his client based projects, such as the Tiger beer advertisement and windows 7. He has personally inspired me to pursue working on “art for art’s sake” playing around with background textures and spending more time on my colour choices. He is a true inspiration and if you haven’t see his work before…look now

So that brings the deviant art cream of the crop to an end…for now anyway. I plan to bring you a select number of Deviant Art profiles that I stumble upon each month so stay tuned for that regular blog.

Hi, I’m Nick AKA bombaman. Here’s a little bit about me. I’m currently a college student studying a Foundation Diploma in Art & Design hoping to take this forward to do Graphic Design at a uni that takes me :D

I’m very much into just general photo manipulation, typography, vector art and I also like a lot of illustration, i’m always trying to broaden my horizons. A lot of my work has a “commercially” feel to it. I really enjoy and take interest in things like magazine covers, layouts, dvd covers, advertising boards etc. A lot of my work is quite simplistic, I like messing about with colours and composition. Some artists I enjoy and find inspiring are people like Milton Glaser, David Carson and other people I can’t remember right now.

I’m hoping to give updates quite regularly on what I’ve been doing lately, posting up some of my work. WHich hopefully should be pretty sexy as most of it will be my major project work. At the moment, my work is quite restricted and I have’t done anything seriously in a while, but here is some things I’ve knocked together on a computer. Bigger and better things to come :)

Hello, my names Jon and I’m a 21 year old graphic designer from East London. I graduated from Canterbury Christ Church University in 2009 and am currently employed at Blue pig Design Ltd in Essex. In my spare time I am involved in some freelance projects here and there and also take a lot of time to learn new skills and produce “art for arts sake”.

I’m really into Photo Manipulation, Digital Painting and Illustration with my favourite modern artists including people such as Zach Bush, Nick Ainley and Pokestudios. I’m also very interested in motion graphics and am hoping to delve into that area very soon in an attempt to broaden my horizons.

Below are a few pieces work I have created over the last two years.
